Say They Will Fight to Keep Divorce Case in Illinois CBS 2 Chicago Mc Carthy Subpoenaed In Jackson Divorce Case At the 2017 Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s seminar on Business Valuation, Financial and Tax Issues in Divorce, Berger Schatz Managing Partner Leon Finkel presented on the subject “The New-ish IMDMA: Using New Features of the Statute to Benefit Your Clients.” were two questions: first, whether a party must prove an “inability to pay” in order to be awarded attorney’s fees from the other party -- a significant question that could clarify an important inconsistency in Illinois matrimonial law; and second, whether an appellate court has the power to recalculate a trial court’s maintenance finding. Klapman gave a presentation entitled, “A Divorce Primer: Asset and Wealth Protection” at the recent Chicago Bar Association Asset Protection Committee meeting.
